W. Elorda’s Snapshots: National Aviary (Episode 2)

Good morning lovelies.

How are you doing today? Are you happy that it’s Friday? How was your week? Do you have any plans for the weekend.

My weekend is probably going to be spent going on a long walk, and preparing for a convention I have coming up next week. I’m quite excited.

Today, I am coming at you with another Snapshots post! This will be Episode 2 of Snapshots from the National Aviary.

I’m a little behind with my Snapshot posts, so this is from my visit on January 6th. I’m going to do my best to catch up in the next couple of weeks!

Let’s get right to it – shall we?

National Aviary Snapshots – 6th January 2024

These will be in the order you would see the birds as you go through the Aviary yourself. As you can go in two directions, I am basing this on the path I usually take, which is the Tropical Rainforest first.

All of the photos were taken using my iPhone 12, and have not been edited at all.

Hyacinth Macaw

First up is one of my favourite birds in the Aviary, the Hyacinth Macaw, enjoying their lunch.

There was a pair of Hyacinth Macaws at the Aviary, though unfortunately, the male recently passed away. This photo was taken before that.

I adore the deep blue colour of these gorgeous birds, and I love that they have so much personality. They just have such playful little faces.

Victoria Crowned Pigeons

These Victoria Crowned Pigeons were sharing an enclosure with the Flying Foxes.

You can see they are watching me carefully. The cuties are so fun to look at, with their majestic plumage. Pigeons are some of my favourite birds, and I am glad to include these as part of that group!

Burrowing Owl

Another personal favourite at the Aviary are the Burrowing Owls.

These guys are so cute and tiny, and they have the most unamused faces ever. They remind me of a little old man yelling at children to get off their lawn.

They don’t look amused to be having their photo taken do they?

Flamigoes

Flamingoes are such pretty birds. I really enjoy taking group shots of them when I can. That’s especially easy in the Wetlands area of the Aviary.

I could stand in this room and watch these guys for hours. They’re just so funny.

This particular flamingo was separate from the group, and standing quite close to the guest walkway; so close in fact, that they could stick their beak under the fence and get your shoes!

They were being quite chatty, so I am glad that they stood still long enough for me to get this photo.

Would you stand and have a conversation with a flamingo?

Sea Eagle

While I was walking around inside the Aviary, it actually started to snow, so I was able to get a couple of photos of birds with the snow falling.

Here is the Sea Eagle. I think eagles are amusing, as they look so regal in profile, but when they look at you dead on, they look a little derpy. Still amazing creatures, but kind of derpy looking.

I also really love that the feathers on their legs make it look like they are wearing trousers.

Eurasian Eagle-Owl

I took this photo moments before this gorgeous Eurasian Eagle-Owl woke up to glare at the falling snow. Sadly, I didn’t manage to capture a picture of that expression, because it was priceless.

Don’t they look comfy though, all fluffed up and enjoying their sleep? It’s a shame that the snow disturbed them.

And that is all of the snapshots that I have for you! My next Snapshot post will feature photos from the Orchid and Bonsai Show at Phipps Conservatory. I’m really looking forward to sharing that with you!
